Video: This ISPCC film raising awareness for their Missing Children Hotline is powerful stuff

It’s a very tough watch (some scenes are upsetting), but it should make a big impact on you too.

It’s a very tough watch (some scenes are upsetting), but it should make a big impact on you too.

Today is Ireland’s first Missing Person Day and to further mark the day, the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC) have released a very hard-hitting video to highlight their Misssing Children Hotline.

Telling the story of ‘Molly’, it tracks her from her decision to run away from home through to some very traumatic events. It is seriously strong stuff and the video will stay with you for a very long time.

The aim, as expressed by ISPCC CEO Ashley Balbirnie, is to make children and their parents aware that there are places to turn rather than running away.

“Since 2008 there have been over 30,000 missing children reports in Ireland so it is vital that the public is aware that the 116 000 service is in operation. We launched the hotline in June and we have been receiving a growing number of calls.  The short movie shows a tragic scenario of a young girl who has run away and the key message behind the video is that when you think you have nowhere left to run, you still have somewhere left to turn: the ISPCC 116 000 Missing Children’s Hotline.

“There are a variety of instances where children can go missing, including running away, parental or criminal abduction, lost or unaccompanied children.  Any of these instances is very distressing for a child or their loved one, which is why we established this emotional support service. We once again remind people that the ISPCC 116 000 Missing Children’s Hotline is not an emergency service.  In the case of an emergency please telephone the Gardaí on 112/999. If you want to help raise awareness of this important issue please share the video with the hashtag #MissingChildren.”

Further info on this very worthy initiative is available on their website, www.missingchildrenshotline.ie.
