In an emotional day on Merseyside, Prime Minister David Cameron has issued an apology to the families over the subsequent police cover up.

Cameron said that he is ‘profoundly sorry’ for the ‘double injustice’ suffered by the families of the 96 supporters that died on that fateful day on April 15 1989.
Today’s 400 page report is a damning indictment on the actions of members of the police both on the day and during subsequent investigations.
Evidence has shown emergency services were delayed in getting to the scene, police in charge on the day were negligent and that 116 of the 164 police statements were amended. In an effort to deflect blame from themselves, some police officers trawled through records of the deceased to ‘impugn the reputations of the deceased.’
Tragically the report stated that 41 of the deceased had the ‘potential’ to be saved.
In such a sad story, it is difficult to sum up today’s revelations in just a single tweet, but BBC Sport correspondent Dan Roan made a pretty good attempt.
