Last year, Dublin Bus was left with nearly two million euro in unclaimed refunds after only 33 per cent of passengers bothered to collect their change.
If you’re currently stuck for a bit of cash then you might want to dig out those old Dublin Bus refund tickets. That’s because there’s a small fortune out there just resting in the bank accounts of Dublin Bus and it’s yours for the taking – provided you have a valid receipt of course.
A whopping 66 per cent of Dublin Bus passengers couldn’t be bothered claiming back their refunds from the head offices on O’Connell Street. However, the number of passengers claiming their cash back has been rising ever since 2007, right around the time the sh*t hit the fan with the banks.
In 2011, Dublin Bus was left holding onto over €1.9 million. So what exactly happens to the money? Well, Dublin Bus holds onto it for when you decide to pop by and claim it. But a percentage of the left over cash is actually donated to various charities every year. So it’s not as if it’s ‘resting in an account’, like in Father Ted.
So, if you’re hoping to finance a new car or if you’re simply trying to scrounge enough dosh for a pint with the lads, then you might want to check the back of the sofa for a few refunds.
