Motorcheck.ie today highlighted which cars lose the least amount of money in depreciation by segment, in their new study. So you can find out if your car is a good investment or a heap of junk.

Motorcheck.ie have today produced the industry’s first comprehensive analysis of the residual values of Irish cars. The study examined a wide range of cars in key segments and the results show that the most popular categories are dominated by a small number of manufacturers and models.

The Toyota Yaris, Auris and Corolla along with Skoda’s Fabia, Octavia and Superb shared top billing with the Ford Focus and Opel’s Insignia.

The study used a sample of 12,530 of the top selling vehicles in Ireland and compared the percentage of the original purchase value with the second hand retail price after three years.

There’s some really interesting stuff over on the Motorcheck.ie website which tells you what car retains the most value in the small hatch, mid-range hatch, mid-range saloon and large saloon segments. There are two different graphs for each category relating to both petrol and diesel, so it’s really handy to see if you’re driving an investment or driving a plain old banger.

Head on over to the Motorchceck.ie website for more on the study.
