Bon Jovi have today been confirmed as the headline act for Slane 2013 and it would be fair to say that the reaction has been a little underwhelming.

The American rockers will take to the famous Meath venue on Saturday the 15th of June and tickets are priced at €79.50, inclusive of booking fee.

Organisers could well be living on a prayer themselves as the band have not exactly captivated Irish audiences in recent years. Without a hit song this millennium, their star rating has been on the wane, evident from the venues where they have played their recent gigs.

From Croke Park (2006) to Punchestown (2008) to barely selling two gigs at the RDS last year, some would feel their best days are behind them.

This tweet from Aidan O’Hara sums up most of the commentary since the announcement.

Tickets go on sale Thursday week at 8am, but we get the impression the mad scramble for tickets as seen in previous years may not be evident this time around.

The gig is part of the band’s ‘Because We Can’ tour, but let’s just see if they can sell-out Slane or if this whole idea was a case of bad medicine.
