One Direction have taken part in a particularly cringe-worthy shoot for Wonderland magazine and Graham Linehan spotted a parallel between the band and one of Father Ted’s most famous characters.

One Direction aren’t the first band to take part in a particularly cheesy photoshoot, but one can’t help but cringe at the sight of them wearing colourful woolly jumpers and innocent smiles while each carrying a puppy on the front of the November issue of Wonderland magazine.

In fairness to Mullingar man Niall Horan and his band mates, the shoot is in aid of a good cause because of all of the puppies in the shoot are actually trainee guide dogs, but that does that make them immune from having the piss ripped out of them? Hardly.

One eagle eyed Twitter user, John Fahy, was quick to point out to Father Ted creator Graham Linehan the resemblance between the One Direction lads and Father Ted character Eoin McLove, whose fondness for woolly jumpers and Daniel O’Donnell-like persona appealed to all the old ladies of Craggy Island in a classic Ted episode.

Linehan wholeheartedly agreed and added in one of McLove’s famous quips from the episode for good measure.

How happy the band were that their jumpers came straight from a cake we wouldn’t like to speculate, while we’re sure that they’d like to distance themselves from the terrible secret revealed by McLove at the end of that episode… that he has no willie.
