Glen Johnson’s contract situation at Liverpool is being monitored by Real Madrid, who could make a move for the England full-back in the summer.
The 29-year-old enters the final year of his Reds deal at the start of next season and, given Liverpool’s reluctance to offer lucrative new deals to players over the age of 30, Carlo Ancelotti is said to be interested in bringing the former Chelsea and Portsmouth player to the Bernabeu.
Alvaro Arbeloa, a former Liverpool player himself, is thought to be surplus to requirements and Johnson could be tempted by a lucrative move to Spain, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Earlier this year Johnson admitted: “I’ve loved every minute of the five years I’ve been here and I’d love to stay but really the only truth in it is that I’ve not been offered a new contract on any level.
“No-one has come to me from Liverpool at all. I don’t know the situation the club are in or if they want to renew it. So I’ve not got a decision to make other than to see my contract out because no-one is telling me any different.”
