Killarney, in Co. Kerry, is Ireland’s most popular tourist destination by a country mile and it’s hard to look around the town and not find a view that’s fit for a postcard. However, while it might be one of the most popular places in the country, it’s also one of the wettest.
That’s why local engineer Paudie O’Mahoney has devised a plan to keep the rain off of tourists and locals alike. The plan is to place an ‘artificial roof’ over the streets of Killarney which can be removed in the summer when it’s nice and put back up once the heavens oven.
The plan is to make the artificial roofs from large sections of heavy-duty canvas. Speaking to the Irish Independent Mr O’Mahoney said, “This canopy cover system could be introduced on a trial basis in a lane way or even on one of the main streets and I can see it taking off all over the country in a very short space of time”.
