A man had to be escorted out of the Cash Converters Players’ Championship final because his resemblance to Jesus caused a bit of a commotion among the crowd. It was the darts after all.
If you’ve ever been to a live darts match you’ll see that people are thrown out at the same rate that they walk in. There’s lots of booze flowing and testosterone pumping so things can get a little heated. However, one lad was recently told to leave because he looked a bit too much like Jesus…
Nathan Grindal, 33, a native of Australia, was enjoying the match between champ Phil Taylor and Kim Huybrechts when someone in the crowd noticed his hairy head and his uncanny resemblance to Jesus. A chant of “Stand up if you love Jesus” was started by a few rowdy fans but it then erupted among the 4,500-strong crowd.
Six bouncers had to escort Nathan out of the main hall and to the bar where he was told to watch the rest of match on the TV’s provided. In fairness, staff bought him a pint for the inconvenience and some darts fan wouldn’t leave the arena without a picture beside Nathan.
Nathan, who emigrated to Oxford in the UK six years ago, said: “I didn’t go to the darts dressed as Jesus – I went as me.
“It was all very weird and distressing. In his post-match interview, Phil Taylor said something like ‘if I ever see Jesus again, I’ll crucify him myself’. Now that’s just hurtful.”
