According to the Today FM DJ Ray D’Arcy, RTÉ’s coverage of the NYE countdown was ‘brutal’. In fairness, it didn’t come close to London’s event.
Most of you were probably out celebrating the New Year with a few drinks surrounded by close friends and/or family, but others would have stayed in and watched RTÉ’s coverage of the countdown. Miriam O’Callaghan and Aidan Power presented the show, which featured a concert that included Imelda May, Bell X1 and Ham Sandwich, but it hasn’t been getting the response that RTÉ were hoping for.
Speaking on the Ray D’Arcy Show yesterday morning, Ray said the coverage was a disappointment and terrible.
“I watched it, and the sound was terrible.
“I would imagine the people who were there enjoyed it because it was an outdoor gig and the weather wasn’t too bad.
“RTE have failed so many times in ringing in the New Year that maybe this was going to be the year. It wasn’t. It was brutal,” he finished.
Ray wasn’t alone either. Twitter users were quick to tweet out their feelings, however, it wasn’t all bad criticism…
