They may have been sponsored as part of the EU Presidency deal, but the sight of 58 brand new swanky Audi A6 cars parked up at Farmleigh didn’t half cause a stir.
With the harsh measures inflicted by last month’s budget still fresh in the memory, the sight of a car park full of top of the range 131-reg Audi A6 TDI cars at Farmleigh Estate – 58 of them to be precise – only served to further anger Irish people raging at the government for the financial plight many of them find themselves in at present.
After all, it doesn’t exactly scream austerity now does it?

Not everyone was quick to criticise the government, however, with prolific tweeter and comedy writer Colm Tobin putting forth a left-field suggestion for what the Audis were to be used for.

Sadly, however, the electorate will not benefit from the vehicles as many may not have been aware of, or simply chose to ignore, the fact that the cars were supplied by Audi to bring ministers from the airport to their hotels during the 11 ministerial meetings that will take place over the next six months.
According to a report in the Irish Times last month, the Audi deal is part of a sponsorship arrangement worth €14 million, involving seven companies, with Eircom and ESB also involved.
Still looks pretty bad though.
