The makers of the hit board game, Monopoly, have announced that one of its iconic player tokens is to be removed from the game for good.
What’s your favourite Monopoly token? Is it the dog? Or maybe it’s the ship? Well you better make your mind up and vote because one classic token is on its way out.
According to the guys from Hasbro, “It’s the trial of the century! The fate of every classic Monopoly token rests in your hands. Vote daily to save your favourite token from a life sentence off the board…”
Facing the chop
So why chance things around? Well the makers of the game want to “reflect the interests of today’s players”, so while they’re kicking one classic token off the list, they’re also bringing in another brand new one.
Hasbro spokesman Eric Nyman said: “The tokens are one of the most iconic parts of the Monopoly game, and we know that people are emotionally tied to their favourite one.
“When we decided to replace one of the tokens in the game, we knew we had to involve our fans in the process.
“We can’t wait to see which iconic piece will go to jail and which new token the fans will choose to become part of one of the world’s most popular games.”
New pieces to choose from
Fans of the board game can go onto Facebook and choose one new piece from a selection of the following: a moustachioed toy robot, a diamond ring, a helicopter, a guitar and… a cat.
Seeing as this is the internet, the cat is probably definitely going to win…
