Yes, that’s the Wexford hurlers, not the Waterford hurlers.
We don’t think we can remember a time when the GAA was so appealing to well-known Irish athletes famous for their prowess in other sports.
After Gavin Duffy’s high-profile addition to the Mayo football panel came Shay Given helping out with Donegal training and it was only yesterday when he heard about Leinster and Ireland rugby star Sean O’Brien lining out for his local Junior B side in Carlow at the weekend.
Following that trend, Ipswich Town winger and Irish international Stephen Hunt (his last appearance in green was during Euro 2012 but he’s made himself available for a possible return) engaged in a spot of training last night with the Wexford hurlers, who were coming off the back of a comprehensive Leinster Championship victory over Antrim on Sunday.
Hunt, of course, is a passionate Waterford hurling man and played at under-age level for the Déise in his teenage years, but we imagine that his decision to train with Liam Dunne’s outfit was more out of convenience – he owns a bar in Rosslare which opened over the weekend – than anything else and besides, he was keen to point out that he hasn’t changed allegiances just yet.
Thanks to liam dunne to let me train tonight with the wexford hurling team!wasn’t allowed train in Waterford colours #blowing #cobwebs
