Facebook bosses announced yesterday that they were gearing up to launch their own search engine, but Google won’t have to worry about it… yet.
We’ve known for a while that Facebook was up to something secretive and rumours of new apps and even a new layout have been doing the rounds. However, at a ‘mystery event’ yesterday, the social network unveiled its new search engine called Graph Search.
So will Google and Bing be shaking in their boots? No. Not yet anyway, as the search engine only looks for stuff on Facebook. Speaking from Facebook’s California HQ, Mark Zuckerberg stressed that Graph Search was ‘very different’ than internet search engine already in use.
The service allows users to search for content that has been shared on the social network, so you can search for almost anything such as photos taken before 1990, friends who like certain things and you can even search for people who live in your area.
