HMV have confirmed that their UK stores will start accepting gift vouchers over in the UK, but the same can’t be said for their Irish stores.

We’re sure that many of you out there received HMV gift vouchers for Christmas. Or maybe you gave your brother’s girlfriend a €50 voucher thinking it would be a bloody great idea – I know I did.

Well there’s still no joy over here in Ireland as the retailer has confirmed that only their UK branches will start to reaccept vouchers from today.

But why? Well the reason there is because the British arm of the music store is in administration whereas the Irish arm is in receivership.

Basically, the UK stores are still open and the company hopes to sell off the stores, but the Irish branches remain closed and will do so until a decision is made over in the UK.

So what can you to do with your unused vouchers? Well, they make great coasters and you could practice your ninja-star throwing skills with them. Apart from that, they’re pretty useless for now.

Joking aside, we wouldn’t throw them out just yet, as the National Consumer Agency said it would try to get the administers, Deloitte, to reverse the decision to refuse any gift vouchers.
