Fake €20 notes becoming widespread across the country

Gardaí are warning both consumers and retailers to be on the lookout for any forgeries.

Gardaí are warning both consumers and retailers to be on the lookout for any forgeries.

Fake €20 notes have been found in Cork, Dublin, Waterford, Limerick, Tipperary and Kildare and Gardaí suggest that people check these notes in the same way that they would a €50 note.

Forgers are said to be using high volume events such as festivals and markets, where there is high footfall, to get their notes into circulation.

“We would advise people to be vigilant and, if they do come across any suspicious banknotes, report it to their local Garda station immediately,” a Garda spokesperson told JOE on Saturday.
