An old Russian cruise ship that was thought to have been lost at sea has made a surprise reappearance off the west coast of Ireland. Spooky…

The MV Lyubov Orlova (pictured above), named after a Russian actress, was once a top class cruise ship built for the harsh and unforgiving icy waters of Antarctica and the Arctic, however, now she sits drifting in the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

According to Newser.com, the empty Russian cruise ship has been lost at sea for weeks, but it has now turned up some 1,300 nautical miles off Ireland’s west coast.

The vessel was originally being towed from Canada to the Dominican Republic in order to be dismantled for scrap metal, when a tug line broke in late January, setting her adrift.

An attempt to recapture the vessel failed and owners feared the ship would be lost for good. “I’m trying my best [to retake the ship],” ship owner Reza Shoeybi told Canada’s CBC News. “I’m talking to a few people in Ireland – salvage companies – perhaps to partner up with them and retrieve her.”

There is a slight problem though, as the ship’s GPS system no longer works so it’s drifting aimlessly towards Europe without any indication as to where exactly it is or where it will end up. It could run aground in Ireland, Norway or Africa according to officials.

So if you live on the west coast keep an eye out for the lost MV Lyubov Orlova.
