A major mining company is currently turning its focus towards Wexford as it says it is hopeful of finding gold in the region.

The IMC Exploration Group is hopeful in finding gold along a 6.5km ‘gold zone’ in Kilmichael, Wexford, after it identified the region as having a potential for having large mineral deposits.

Dr Glenn Millar, Managing Director of IMC, said: “We are delighted that successive drilling to date has continually reinforced the exploration potential of this licence area, culminating in the outlining of a potential 6.5km long zone of mineralisation.

“IMC’s ambitious exploration programmes are consistently producing extremely positive results, allowing us to continue to expand our activity at an increased pace.”

According to the company’s website: Previous drilling and float sampling indicate that the Kilmichael area contains significant gold grades in quartz veins, containing arsenopyrite and free gold, and are associated with altered and brecciated siltstones in a structurally complex setting.

It all sounds very good and it’s sure to give the region a boost if there is any gold sitting underneath the surface, so here’s to hoping they find something (and to hoping that they send us the first free samples).
