A ferret rudely interrupted a Swiss football match yesterday, but the players managed to curtail the slippery critter in what was the game’s most interesting development.
You know what it’s like when you’re watching a boring football match and you wish something funny like a ferret would run onto the pitch to liven things up. Well, luckily for Swiss fans watching FC Thun and FC Zurich battling it out in the Swiss Super League, the ferret showed up.
The cuddly creature ran out onto the pitch halfway through the match and brought play to a stop. Players stood on and watched the ferret, or pine marten as it’s also called, before Zurich defender Loris Benito decided to give chase.
Benito managed to catch the ferret thanks to a fairly impressive diving rugby tackle, but the ferret made off after biting Benito’s finger. Eventually, Zurich goalkeeper David Da Costa caught the ferret thanks to his thick ferret proof gloves.
“In hindsight, I was probably a little foolish,” Benito told Swiss television at halftime. “You don’t know what sort of disease it might be carrying. It was painful.”
Big thanks to whoever put the Benny Hill music over the video. Oh, and Zurich won 4-0.
