Given his capacity for mischief, Joe Brolly could have been taking the p*ss, but it appears he ran into the one man in Ireland who didn’t know who he was last night… the President himself.
Now we know Michael D is more of a soccer man given his links with Galway United, but we would have thought he would have known a man who, to say that his views on Gaelic Football can be controversial would be putting it mildly indeed.
Not so, according to Brolly himself, who posted the following tweet last night during the Late Late show, where both he and Michael D were appearing as guests.

If you didn’t see it, Michael D was his normal charming self in conversation with Ryan Tubridy and although Brolly’s opinions have put many GAA people’s noses out of joint in the past and will do in the future, he earned universal acclaim last night after his appearance alongside Shane Finnegan, the man who he donated a kidney to late last year.
The kidney transplant subsequently failed, but both Brolly and Finnegan showed remarkable dignity while retelling the story to Tubridy, an experience that was incredibly emotional at times for the men themselves, the studio audience and the thousands watching on television.
Respect.
UPDATE: We received an e-mail on behalf of the Irish Kidney this afternoon telling us that directly after Joe’s compelling interview on last night’s Late Late Show, the Irish Kidney Association received 1200 requests for Donor Cards via the IKA’s Freetext number and website.
They also understand that Joe received about 1000 tweets and 120,000 retweets.
Great news regarding a great cause.
