Who would have known that outspoken TV personality Piers Morgan is a fan of our ancient game, and such a good judge of hurler?

When it comes to Morgan and Twitter, we associate the TV host with putting footballers’ noses out of joints, with Robin Van Persie, Michael Owen and Rio Ferdinand often falling victim to his barbed comments. However this weekend on the social media platform he displayed some degree of knowledge of the game of hurling with an opinion that will please everyone in Kilkenny.

Morgan was engaging in a Q&A session on Saturday, being asked a series of questions from his favourite Arsenal manager, to his favourite rapper, to his favourite film.

One question that may have caught him by surprise was to name his favourite hurler. Whether Morgan has any knowledge of the game, or was forced into a quick Google search, we will never know, but his opinion was one that few would argue with.

And for Morgan, that is an unusual occurrence indeed.

King Henry can take a bow, one of the most controversial TV personalities thinks he is the greatest hurler of all time. There can be no higher praise than that.
