Bad news if you work or live in Dublin and you hate traffic

It might be time to get a bike...

It might be time to get a bike…

One of the most frustrating things in the world is being stuck in traffic in the morning and evening as you’re on your way to work or college. It makes your travel time totally unpredictable so you have to get up way too early and moving two feet every five minutes can start to grate pretty quickly.

Traffic heading into and out of certain parts of Dublin city is an absolute nightmare and unfortunately it’s going to get a lot worse as traffic is set to increase by 50,000 journeys a day in the next nine years, according to the Department of Transport.

The Irish Times are reporting that up to 40,000 of those journeys will be by private car and that the extra numbers on the road will require the building of 40 high-rise car parks in the city centre. Lovely.

The report says the Minister for Transport has ruled out a congestion charge and multi-point tolling on the M50 and will attempt to improve public transport services to deal with the increased volume of traffic.

We’re off to invent a Star Trek-style transporter that will send us straight to our office.
