The 56-year-old Italian man who wrote ‘Ebola’ on a coffee cup on an Aer Lingus flight to Milan has been spared a conviction and jail time.

The alert was raised shortly before 1pm yesterday on an Aer Lingus flight from Milan to Dublin when the passenger, Roberto Binaschi, reportedly wrote “Attentione Ebola” on his cup.

Apparently, the man was making a ‘sick joke’ with one of his daughters, but the joke didn’t go down to well with everyone else on board.

Binaschi was taken off the flight and brought in for questioning yesterday, before facing court this morning.

Mr. Binaschi was spared a conviction and jail time after he agreed to pay €2500 to the Capuchin Day Centre for homeless people, in Dublin 7.

Remember folks, joking about Ebola never pays…
