The next time you’re up to your neck in shite on some god-awful GAA pitch in Ireland, try not to get too jealous about the folks who play here on a regular basis.
Much as we love the GAA here in Ireland, it’s not always the most glamorous of pursuits, particularly when your hands are so cold from rain and hail that you can barely feel your fingers or when you have to play on a pitch like the Cordal GAA pitch in Kerry, which attracted notoriety in recent weeks for the rather shoddy nature of the playing surface.
Wouldn’t it be great, however, if you could play on pitches like this on a regular basis, with the sun beating down from the sky and the ocean providing a beautiful backdrop to take in when the ball is down the other end of the field?

We’re not sure exactly where this is but according to the Twitter page of Elaine Byrne, it would appear to be somewhere in Sydney, where there is a thriving GAA scene what with all the ex-pats who have shacked up there in recent years.
It may, of course, be a rugby pitch – the length of the pitch and the height of the crossbars would lead us to suspect that is indeed the case – but hey, we can dare to dream, right?
