The very first iPhone that was released way back in 2007 will ‘become obsolete’ next month, rendering it as useful as a €500 paperweight.
Did you spend a couple of hundred euros on the original iPhone back in 2007 only to promise yourself that you’d NEVER buy another one? Well, if you’re still using the old device (which would be pretty impressive on the phone’s part) then you’re in for some bad news if a leaked document from Apple’s HQ is to be believed…
Six years on since the launch of the revolutionary handheld device, the original iPhone will no longer be serviced and replacement parts will no longer be produced for it in countries outside the US. So if it needs a new part, you’re screwed…
However, those in California will be able to get parts for the next two years thanks a loophole in US customs law. These customers will have their phone classed as ‘Vintage’ and not ‘Obsolete’, like the rest of us. Feckin’ hipsters.
So what are you to do if your original iPhone starts to give you hassle? Well, you can always try the mobile phone lads on Moore Street – you know the ones – or you can go to someone who specialises in iPhone repairs, but the bottom line is that Apple themselves won’t be able to help.
According to the leaked document, a few Mac computers will also become ‘obsolete’ next month.
