Pic: This is a really odd, sheep-themed way for a UK jobs site to advertise Irish jobs

Come again?

Conor Heneghan

Ewe won’t believe it.

Scrolling through your Twitter feed today, you may have come across this promoted tweet by a UK company advertising a website where you could search for available jobs in Ireland.

Maybe it’s just us who think it’s a little odd, but unless it’s a shepherds-only jobs site (which it isn’t) we find it strange that they would make such a connection.

Lazy stereotyping, perhaps?

Or maybe it’s like Dougal when he named his rabbit ‘Sampras’ in Father Ted. You know, rabbits, tennis, that whole connection.

Besides, is it even a fact that there are more sheep than people in Ireland?

The National Sheep and Goat Census of 2011 (yes, such a thing exists) says there were 3.48 million sheep in Ireland at the time, which falls well short of the estimated human population figures in this country of around 4.5 million.

And don’t even get us started on the double use of the word ‘the’.

Might want to try that one again lads.
