Pic: Look how long the queue was for a pub in Galway at 10am on Tuesday of Rag Week

It is Donegal Tuesday after all

It is Donegal Tuesday after all.

Pancake Tuesday might be getting a lot of people excited in most parts of the country today, but for Donegal students in Galway, it will come a distant second to one of the biggest days in the calendar year.

That’s right, today is Donegal Tuesday in Galway and, as is the case every year, those who hail from the hills plan on celebrating it in style in the Hole in Wall pub on Eyre Street in Galway.

Judging by pictures taken from the nearby City Taxis, they’re making an early start too as dozens upon dozens of students who would probably struggle to make it out of bed for a 9am lecture were up early to get their place in the queue.

RTE News Western Correspondent Pat McGrath, meanwhile, had video footage of the queue stretching around the corner at McSwiggans and onto Eglington Street, which, as people familiar with that part of Galway will know, is a decent distance away from the Hole in the Wall.

We hope that all those out celebrating today enjoy themselves but do so responsibly; the dangers of starting out so early in the day hardly need to be stressed so please God it will all pass without a fuss.

Stay safe folks.
