Those bloody onions!
You might not like to admit it, but if you’ve never cried at a movie in your lifetime then you Sir, are a cold-hearted bastard made completely out of stone.
Thankfully, most of us will freely admit to having bawled our eyes out during certain movies and listeners to Ian Dempsey’s Breakfast Show opened their hearts in a big way this morning.
Ian put a shout-out to listeners asking them to let him know their saddest movies and the texts flooded in (with tears), culminating in the top five below.
A few of the JOEs in the office couldn’t believe that Good Will Hunting, Cool Runnings (the scene where they’re clapped to the finish line after their sled falls apart) and Cinema Paradiso (ask Eoghan Doherty about that one) didn’t make it.
Our opinions didn’t count in this case, however, so here’s what Ian’s listeners thought, complete with particularly sad scenes from the movies in brackets afterwards.
Warning: Tears may result after viewing number one below.
Top Five Saddest Movies
5. Field of Dreams (Ray meets his father)
4. Marley & Me (Marley goes to doggy heaven)
3. Up (opening sequence)
2. Love Actually (the scene with Emma Thompson)
1. The Champ (“Don’t die, Champ”!)
