Eamon McGee has been receiving hate mail

Donegal footballer Eamon McGee has revealed how he has received hate mail over his support for a Yes vote in the forthcoming Marriage Referendum.

McGee’s appearance on The Late Late Show, in which he voiced his support for same sex marriage, has led to vicious abuse.

“There’s been letters to the house with no names on them saying that I’m going to hell and leading the people of Ireland to hell, all this off-the-wall stuff,” McGee said in an interview with The Sunday Times.

“Obviously you’d prefer it didn’t happen but I feel I’m doing the right thing. I’m happy I can look back that I stood by principles I believe in.”

The GPA recently expressed their support for a Yes vote, while Dublin footballer Ger Brennan and Tipperary hurler Kieran Bergin have both gone public for a No vote.
