Video: Homeless man in Newcastle stuns commuters by playing Beethoven

This is incredible

Tony Cuddihy

A homeless man in Newcastle Central Station stunned passers-by with his piano skills.

Alan Donaldon, 26, gave commuters a beautiful moment when he started playing Beethoven’s Für Elise at a piano that was installed earlier this year by the Newcastle Rotary Club.

The Mirror reports that a passing policeman tried to stop Alan from playing but ultimately just settled back and let him do his thing.

Facebook user Michael Kinnison said: “At first a policeman tried to stop him and told the homeless man to leave, but, eventually he let him sit at the piano.

“People, including the policeman, were stood by laughing to themselves as they watched the homeless man sit at the piano.

“However their mocking turned to shock as the man burst into a beautiful rendition of Für Elise.”

Speaking to a reporter, homeless Alan said: “I have been on the streets for about a year and a half, it is hard.

“People accuse me of begging but when I am at the piano nobody tends to bother me.

“I don’t think I had played the piano for a few years before it appeared at the station, but it seemed to just come back to me quite easily.”
