The American police officer was responding to ‘a disturbance involving multiple juveniles’.
The amateur video shot by 15-year-old Brandon Brooks appears to show the officer in question aggressively handcuff a number of black teens before he grabs and flings a black, female teenager to the ground.
As people come to her aid, he shockingly draws his weapon (3.23). It’s a deeply unsettling video.
On the YouTube upload, Brooks says, “A fight between a mom and a girl broke out and when the cops showed up everyone ran, including the people who didn’t do anything. This kind of force is uncalled for especially on children and innocent bystanders.”
The incident took place in the city of McKinney in Texas. Their police department have issued a statement on Facebook where they claim teens were “actively fighting” and that “one of the responding officers has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of this (investigation)”.
It’s the latest incident in a succession of accusations of police brutality in various American states this year.
Last week an investiagation by the Guardian showed that black Americans were twice as likely to be shot unarmed as white Americans.
