Bangers aren’t as plentiful on Irish roads as they used to be.
Over 3,000 cars have been towed from NCT centres in Ireland in the first six months of this year, according to data released by by test operator Applus this week.
The data, referenced in the Irish Daily Mirror, reveals that more than 3,000 of the 800,000+ vehicles tested were deemed too dangerous for Irish roads, which is likely to lead to a significant increase on the overall figure of 4,800 for 2014.
Just under half of tested vehicles (48.6%) passed the test, while of the 419,905 vehicles to have failed the test (51.9%), 3,059 of them were deemed dangerously unroadworthy.
418,334 cars that failed the NCT were subsequently submitted for re-testing with a 91% success rate, while 545 vehicles that went for a re-test were still found to be too dangerous to drive out of the centre.
Since December of last year, being caught without a valid NCT certificate is punishable with three penalty points and a fine and ever since the measure was brought in, motorists have been quick to try and get their affairs in order as soon as possible.
24-hour NCT tests have been rolled out in selected centres in Ireland to cope with the demand and as a result, there are expected to be more tests this year than ever before.
Best to make sure your baby is ready to go before you bring her in; having it towed away is not something you want to face, after all.
