5 of our favourites from this year’s Galway Film Fleadh

The Fleadh has done it again

JOE

Another year, another successful Galway Film Fleadh.

Nothing less would be expected from a festival that continues to attract the best in local and international talent.

Here are our favourite movies from the week.

You’re Ugly Too

Aidan Gillen gives a masterful performance as a troubled man who gets temporary release from prison to look after his deceased sister’s child.

Lauren Kinsella is consistently impressive in this film, which is full of heart but refuses to give into sentimentality.

Bloodsucking Bastards

Bloodsucking Bastards is batshit crazy in the best possible way. Fran Kranz of ‘Cabin in the Woods’ fame is brilliant as the overlooked employee who is forced to fight back against more than just office boredom.

Song of the Sea

This Oscar nominated animation is nothing short of fantastic. A timeless feature that will be shown for generations.

My Name is Emily

A fantastic movie, which was made by a truly inspirational individual. Simon Fitzmaurice was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in 2008, but he has not let that stop him from making beautiful movies.

This short clip explains the obstacles the film overcame better than we ever could.

Lost in the Living

A film for anyone who has ever felt completely lost. Tadhg Murphy plays a young musician who moves to Berlin and falls into a spiral of delusion and self destruction.

So there you have it, 5 great films you should definitely see when they get a wider release.
