Merkel met a group of 14- to 17-year-olds in the gymnasium of their school in the northern city of Rostock. It was a televised event called “Good Life in Germany”.
The young girl had arrived in Germany four years previously with her family from a Lebanese refugee camp and now faces the prospect of being deported along with her family.
She gets very emotional and Merkel attempts to console her and explain why Germany has to take that stance.
