Donegal’s most famous amateur weather forecaster is predicting a scorching August for Ireland

Now you're talkin'

That’s good enough for us.

After a pretty decent June, the last few weeks have been something of a washout in Ireland and has left most of us pining for a few days in sunnier climes.

In both of the last two summers, we’ve enjoyed positively Mediterranean-like conditions in Ireland and we shouldn’t give up hope of it happening again this year, because one of Ireland’s most famous weather forecasters reckons we’re in for a fine month next month.

According to the Irish Mirror, Donegal postman-cum-weather forecaster Michael Gallagher is predicting some scorching weather in Ireland next month because a new moon falls on a Friday.

On the other hand, however, September is not looking good because a new moon falls on a Sunday.

“That’s not a good sign,” Michael said and sure who needs fancy instruments and weather charts when new moons and the feeling in your bones is just as reliable a guide.

Disappointingly, the real experts aren’t as confident as Michael is of a pleasant August and the news isn’t good for this week either, with the word ‘showers’ featuring heavily despite forecasts of temperatures in the mid teens to low twenties on occasion during the week.

Reliable and scientific it might not be, but we prefer Michael’s forecast.
