What are the chances?

The message in a bottle idea where you you write a note, put it in a bottle, throw it in the ocean, watch it go out to sea and hope it washes up in some far-flung location is pretty unrealistic.

Our previous attempts looked a little something like this.

However, a pretty amazing thing happened this month when a message in a bottle that was thrown into the sea in Nantucket in the States two years ago washed up in Galway.

Rory Golden of Flagship Scuba spotted this bottle below bobbing around in the water off the coast on Connemara and plucked it out to have a closer look.

He found this note which was written by a 13-year-old girl named Natalie from New York City who was on holiday in Nantucket.

According to Irish Central, Natalie’s dad got wind of the discovery and contacted Flagship Scuba explaining that the family threw messages out each summer but never expected them to reach Ireland.

It’s pretty amazing that it traveled over 4,500 kilometres, a great story.
