Very distressing news.
An incident in Co. Louth has resulted in at least one death this evening.
One Garda is believed to have been killed, and some reports suggest that two other people have also died.
Dreadful news coming from Omeath. I've been in touch with local Gardai and I'm awaiting a further update.

Tweets from the area report that helicopters are patrolling the area following the incident, and it is not known whether or not the assailant or assailants have been caught.
UPDATE:
In a statement this evening, Garda confirmed that one of the deceased was a member of An Garda Síochána.
According to RTÉ, the deceased Garda is a father of three, aged in his 30s. He was responding to a domestic dispute at a house in the Cooley Peninsula near Carlingford.
