Incredible story of an Irish filmmaker who took a huge risk and landed an Oscar-nominated actor

When courage and talent combine

Paul Moore

When courage and talent combine.

One of the hardest things to do in your career is getting that initial ‘foot in the door’, but when every opportunity seemed closed for Conor Maloney, he took a huge financial risk and kicked down the door.

Conor is an aspiring filmmaker from Dublin and he has followed the lead of filmmakers like the Coen Brothers (Blood Simple) and Kevin Smith (Clerks) by personally financing a 5-minute ‘taster’ or ‘mood piece’ for his new feature film.

What’s remarkable though is that his film Ayamé features the iconic John Hurt, nominated twice for an Academy Award and having starred in Alien, The Elephant Man, Harry Potter and V For Vendetta, but that’s not the most impressive thing.

Conor was so passionate about this project that he cashed in his own life insurance policy to raise some funds.

Ayamé is set in the near future and the story revolves around a rescue mission on what was thought to be an uninhabited planet. Conor says that his initial idea was far too big to make, given the limited budget, so he refocused his efforts on making a 5-minute teaser.

Here’s a glimpse of Conor’s vision for the film and we wish him the very best with the project. Anyone that’s this passionate about their art deserves a massive amount of respect.

Enjoy…
