Tiz’ the season to spend, spend, spend.
Whether you like it or not, Christmas is just around the corner and that means saying goodbye to any disposable income you planned on keeping for the rest of the year.
Irish website Webloyalty have devised these predictions on spending over the Christmas period and the results are staggering.
The ecommerce company claim that Irish shoppers will spend €1.59bn (yes, BILLION) on presents over Christmas, up 2.8% from last year.
The mind boggling statistics don’t end there, with these terrifying bullet points illustrating what lies ahead over the next couple of months.
– €871 million will be spent on Christmas gifts this year
– €435 will be the average spend per person this Christmas
– Almost 1 in 5 (19%) intend to spend more on Christmas gifts than last year. Half (48%) will spend the same
– 63% will spend up to 10 hours Christmas shopping while 14% will spend more than 24 hours shopping
– 38% will shop online using their mobile device
These figures, of course, represent genuine recovery in the country over the last year, but the big question, really, is whether our loved ones are worth all this trouble?
For the sake of posterity, we’ll say that; yes, yes they are.
