Christmas is a time of goodwill, happiness and cheer and these ten movies absolutely nail that concept… well, probably not Bad Santa.
Christmas is just around the corner which means it’s time to start watching Christmas movies.
Here at JOE we LOVE festive movies. Honestly, they’re great for our elf-esteem… get it?! OK… we’ll grab our coat.
Anyway, Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony Mackie have come together to give us another Christmas gem – The Night Before.
It’s in cinemas on December 4 and it might be set to join the greats… check it out for yourselves.
To celebrate its release, here are 10 other Christmas comedy crackers that we love to watch while devouring selection boxes.
Scrooged
Bill Murray is visited by three wacky ghosts in an altered adaptation of the Charles Dickens’ novel ‘A Christmas Carol’… well, that might just win sentence of the year.
This is a great Christmas movie, which is hilarious at times and terrifying at others.

Home Alone
If you haven’t heard of Home Alone, chances are you live under a rock or you are indeed, a rock.
This is the movie that people think of when they think of festive comedies. For good reason too… the charming story of a sociopath who cruelly tortures two misguided petty criminals is one for the ages.

Gremlins
Probably the least Christmasy Christmas movie ever made sees a bunch of crazy little gremlins try to take over a naive, but adorable little town.
If you only watch one scene, make it the one with the old lady in the stair-master.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
We love this movie… we really do. But after watching the trailer, all we can think of is Michelle Monaghan. Honestly. Mind. Gone. Blank.

Bad Santa
Billy Bob Thornton gives a first class performance as a shopping centre’s Santa Clause who gives absolutely zero sh*ts about Christmas.
Himself and the mother from the Gilmore Girls star in this classic which makes no excuse for saying ‘bah humbug.’

Muppet Christmas Carol
No matter what age you are, this is guaranteed to make you feel like a little kid. You probably know all the songs and you probably sing them too. Good for you. It’s feckin’ great.

Elf
Will Ferrell is at his absolute best here as the superbly naive Elf.
You could probably tell him anything and he’d believe it… we hear he is even the chairperson of the Mayo for Sam 2016 campaign.

Jingle All The Way
By far the most controversial selection here in JOE HQ. Nonetheless, this is Arnie gold.
Jingle All The Way is essentially the same as the rest of Arnie’s movies except it’s set at Christmas. Which makes it better. Simple logic.
National Lampoon Christmas Vacation
If you’re feeling a little too sweet after Elf and Jingle All The Way, this movie will put you back on track. It’s not the best of the National Lampoon movies but it definitely has its moments.
Trading Places
This is one of the finest films Eddie Murphy has ever made. A reminder of his genius and acting ability.
