Over 100 people were arrested…
There were angry scenes in Paris today as protestors took to the streets as part of global climate demonstrations on the eve of the COP21 climate summit in Belfast.
The protestors fought with police in the streets near Place de la Republique, an area which which has become a gathering place for Parisians since this month’s terror attacks on the French capital.
The largely peaceful crowd were out in force to try and urge action on global warming ahead of the climate summit.
However, a small group of protestors wearing masks hurled projectiles at police which resulted in police firing tear gas at the offenders.
According to French police, over 100 arrests were made but no serious injuries were reported in the clashes with the protestors.
Plans for an even larger protest were shelved by activists after France declared a state of emergency following this month’s terror attacks, while up to 24 known activists were placed under house arrest prior to today’s protest under the emergency powers act.
