Good news! Those on minimum wage will have a healthier pay packet from today

Tony Cuddihy

Many of the government’s budget changes have taken effect.

Anyone in Ireland on minimum wage will see an increase in their pay from today onwards.

Around 124,000 workers will be paid an hourly rate of at least €9.15, an increase of 50c from the previous minimum wage.

Given the USC and PRSI cuts, a single person working full-time on the minimum wage can expect to receive rough €56 more a month.

“This will mean for example, for a single worker, working a full-time job, working a full week, will receive a net pay increase of €708 a year,” said Minister for Business and Employment Ged Nash.

“For a single earner in a couple, who would be working full-time in a minimum wage job, they would receive just less than €1,000 a year, net, as a result of this increase, so this is good news for the lowest-paid workers in our society.”
