Engineer calls to fix house alarm in Rathcoole and foils an actual burglary

Tony Cuddihy

Always set your alarm, folks.

The gentlemen of Network Security have told us about how one of their engineers happened upon a burglary in Rathcoole earlier on Thursday, and managed to scare the perpetrator off.

“Our engineer Ciarán (pictured above) pulled up to the home to find a burglary in process at the premises and was able to make the burglar run off,” Network Solutions’ Patrick Donohoe told JOE.

“It’s the first time in our twenty years in the business that we’ve come actually face-to-face with a burglar and prevent an active burglary from taking place.

With more and more burglaries taking place across the country, Patrick and his colleagues had several pieces of advice for homeowners and tenants.

  • Never post your holiday plans on social media.
  • Where possible put a timer on lights and lamps as it’s an effective way to give the illusion to an intruder you’re in the home.
  • Always insure the alarm is armed at all times, even if you’re going out for a few minutes – intruders are surveying prospective victims and as we seen today.

“It extremely rare this would happen but coupled with that we feel this is an ideal opportunity to get an important message out there.

“The customer had left the home for five minutes not setting the alarm thinking it would be okay. It would look like she was being watched and the burglar was aware of her daily routine and struck when he knew she would be out – even if only briefly.

“It’s important people set their alarms at all times, especially with burglaries increasing at an alarming rate in some areas of the country.”
