His performances were beloved by generations of film fans.
The beloved actor Alan Rickman has sadly passed away this afternoon aged 69 after a battle with cancer.
Rickman was a much-beloved star of stage and screen and his performances in the likes of Die Hard, Michael Collins, Dogma and the Harry Potter movies.
As an actor, he had one of the most commanding on-screen personalities but away from screen, there have been numerous tributes posted about his incredible decency as a man.
Thousands of people have been quick to show their appreciation, love and sadness at the news of his passing. RIP.
What desperately sad news about Alan Rickman. A man of such talent, wicked charm & stunning screen & stage presence. He'll be sorely missed

Die Hard was Alan Rickman's first ever feature film. The producers had gone to the theatre for a night out and suddenly found their villain.

Alan Rickman is dead & he was another hero. Alan – thank you for being with us. We are sorry you had to go— Eddie Izzard (@eddieizzard) January 14, 2016
You have to note Alan Rickman and David Bowie showed incredible stoicism and quiet courage in the face of the illness that was killing them.

I've always enjoyed this story of Alan Rickman bonding with a young Rupert Grint on the set of Harry Potter. pic.twitter.com/vMzaOsSB9o

…and remember, in the next hour, that if a brilliant actor is not nominated for an Oscar–as Rickman never was–IT DOESN'T MATTER.
