Qatar Airways are about to launch the longest non-stop flight in the world

Long enough to watch around nine good movies we reckon.

Qatar Airways are soon set to launch the longest non-stop flight in the world, a flight that will see passengers spend the best part of a whole day up in the air en route from Doha to Auckland.

According to the Guardian, the airline plan to launch the route as part of new expansion plans, a journey that will take an estimated 18 hours and 34 minutes one way and will cover a distance of just over 9,000 (9,034) miles.

The current holder of the record for the world’s longest non-stop flight is Qantas’ Dallas to Sydney route, which takes approximately 16 hours and 55 minutes one way and covers just under 8,600 (8,578) miles.

An Emirates route from Dubai to Panama City – which will take an estimated 17 hours and 41 minutes – will take the record when it launches on March 31, but will be overtaken if Qatar go ahead with the Doha to Auckland route.

The Qatar flight will actually take less time than direct flights from New York to Singapore (18 hours and 50 minutes), a route that was discontinued in 2013 but could be re-launched by Singapore Airlines.

Two things come to mind when even thinking about a flight that long.

Number one: The jet lag.

Number two: Being stuck beside somebody like this for 18 and a half hours.
