21-year old man in induced coma in Cork after being assaulted with an iron bar

The man is currently in an induced coma in Cork University Hospital.

A 21-year old Lithuanian man is in critical condition in Cork University Hospital after he was struck repeatedly in the head with an iron bar after a fight broke out in a house on the north side of the city in the early hours of this morning.

According to Red FM, the fight took place at approximately 1.30am in a house on Blarney Street in Cork City and a 25-year old Nigerian man was subsequently arrested having been spotted with an iron bar a short distance from the house.

Gardai and members of the regional support unit armed with guns and tasers arrived at the scene shortly after the fight took place and the 21-year old man was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital.

He is currently in an induced coma after sustaining serious head injuries during the attack.

Gardai are appealing for information from anyone who might have been in the area between the hours of 1-1.30am this morning, urging them to call Gurranabraher Garda Station on (021) 4946207.
