Ford gained worldwide notoriety when he admitted smoking crack while in office in October 2013.

Former Mayor of Toronto Rob Ford has died of cancer at the age of 46.

Ford had battled the disease for two years – an initial diagnosis of a rare liposarcoma in 2014 later spread to his bladder, and he leaves behind his wife Renata, children Stephanie and Douglas, mother Diane, brothers Doug and Randy, and sister Kathy.

In 2013, a video of Ford smoking crack did the rounds and caused shockwaves around the world.

The then Mayor of Toronto initially denied using drugs, but later admitted to smoking crack and also abusing alcohol.

“People know that I saved a lot of money, and people are going to know that I had a few personal struggles,” he said in 2014 after being re-elected as a councillor.

“So you can remember it for what you want, but they’re definitely going to remember it.”
