Ireland’s most unpopular names have been revealed

Paul Moore

Know anyone with these names?

You may remember the recent news about those names that are falling in popularity on a global scale but new information released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) has localised this research to the 32 counties.

They’ve released a list of names that were once popular in Ireland during previous decades but are rapidly falling away. By comparing Census information from 1964 with the most recent one conducted, the CSO has been able to ascertain which monikers remain timeless and which ones are becoming less popular with Irish parents.

Good news if you’re named Thomas, Michael and Anna though because these names have remained incredibly popular over the last 50 years.

On the other hand, here’s the full list of Ireland’s most unpopular names:

*All of these names below featured in the list of Ireland’s most popular baby names in 1964 but have fallen away rapidly by 2014.
