Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin is set to reject Enda Kenny’s offer to form a coalition with Fine Gael.
A meeting of the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party saw a negative reaction to Kenny’s proposal to go into partnership.
One member of Fianna Fáil even told The Irish Times that there was unanimous opposition to the proposal: “Not a hope in hell,” said the T.D.
Willie O’Dea of Fianna Fáil was adamant that the proposition of sharing power was an immediate non-starter.
“The people of this country voted to get rid of the outgoing government; they voted to get rid of Enda Kenny as Taoiseach,” he said.
“The people who are supporting me and asked me for my views in advance certainly didn’t contemplate that I would be part an arrangement which would involve, ultimately, putting Enda Kenny back as Taoiseach and sharing Mercs and perks with Fine Gael.”
