Donald Trump has a clean run at the US Presidency, as last Republican candidate drops out of race

The businessman has moved a step closer to becoming the next leader of America.

John Kasich – the sole remaining Republican vying for the party’s nomination as the next US President – is officially dropping out of the running.

This leaves only Democratic hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders in the way of Donald Trump securing the ultimate position.

In truth, Kasich, the Ohio Governor, never stood a realistic chance of getting the nod, having only won one contest, and that was in his home state, taking just 153 of the 1,237 delegates needed to win the nomination.

In spite of the seemingly inevitable decision, Kasich had tweeted this Star Wars-inspired message earlier on Wednesday, claiming that he was ‘Our Only Hope’.

Kasich’s bowing out comes soon after the news of Ted Cruz’s departure from the race.

It’s now full steam ahead for Trump.
